What is a category?
Categories are the folders you see in the Catalog Listing on the Catalog Screen. They are simply a way for you to organize your employee training items. Just like you would save a document to your computer and place it in a folder, when you save a catalog item you place it in a category for easy retrieval later. Categories are user definable.
What is a filter and how are they used?
Filters are ways for you to organize your people and training. In the demo version these default to Location, Division, Department,
and Position. In the full version they are user definable. Filters are most often used in global course assignment and in printing reports.
When assigning training filters allow you to easily assign the same course to multiple students by selecting one or more of the filters.
When printing employee reports you can use the filters to group and/or filter out students by selecting one or more of the filters.
What is the best way to set up the filters?
It depends upon the structure of your organization. One common use is to make a filter for each location, division, department,
and position, and have filtering elements for each filter. If you have just one location, you may want to substitute
building or facility for location. Healthcare organizations often reserve one filter for a particular license group (RN, PT, CNA, and so on).
What is a course?
A course is simply a collection of one or more catalog items. Courses are built on the Compose Screen and are used to simplify the
assignment process. They contain topics and items. Topics are used to group items into logical sections. Items are the actual training
items you entered on the Catalog Screen.
What is the difference between a course and a curriculum?
A course is a set of inventory items grouped together for ease of assignment and tracking. Curriculum refers to the
training assigned to a student. A curriculum can consist of more than one course.
Can I rename the fields in Conductor®?
There are four user defined fields on the Profile Screen and four user defined fields on the Catalog Screen. These are located at the bottom
of their respective screens and are used to track miscellaneous information not found elsewhere in Conductor. The remaining fields in Conductor®
(other than the filters) are not able to be modified.
Can I customize the reports in Conductor®?
There are many employee reports in Conductor® which should satisfy even the most demanding reporting requirements. If you do, however, find the need for
a custom report there is an option. Conductor® utilizes Crystal Reports as its reporting tool. If you have this program you are welcome
to modify and/or create any reports within Conductor®.
Can I create an inventory item for Web Based Training (WBT)?
Sure. In the file location field (Catalog Screen), type in the full URL of the page, including "http://". When students access
their training using Conductor®, it will launch their web browser and go to that web page. Conductor® will track the run date, accumulated time,
and can track more specific information depending on how the website captures and delivers data.
Can I enter past training history into Conductor?
You can enter past histories into Conductor®, however, due to the many differences in training tracking programs, this is a manual process. Our recommendation
is to pick a point in time and go forward from there. For training records older than a couple of years it is usually best to print out hard copies
and store them in the employee's file.
What payments methods do you accept for Conductor®?
Conductor® can be purchased on-line with a credit card using our secure order form. We also accept purchase orders for Conductor® from major
companies. Please email before sending us your purchase order.
What is the standalone version of Conductor® and how does it work?
The standalone version of Conductor® is designed to run on a single workstation. It is intended for smaller organizations or those
where one individual is responsible for the tracking of all company training. This version cannot be networked or shared by multiple people.
This version is an excellent starting point for those companies looking to automate their training administration process. As your needs
then grow you can easily upgrade to a network version of Conductor®.
What is the network version of Conductor® and how does it work?
The network version of Conductor® is designed to run over a local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN).
In this version the program and database live on a shared network drive and are accessible to all workstations on the network.
(A small installation program will need to be run on all workstations which require access to Conductor®.)
This version allows for an unlimited number of computers to use Conductor®. It also allows you to have an unlimited number of
administrators in the system (those responsible for entering and tracking the training). Simultaneous access to the program will be limited,
however, to the number of concurrent administrators you purchase (i.e. a 2 user license will allow 2 administrators to use Conductor® at the same time).
This version is required if you wish to purchase the Student LAN option.
How many administrators can I have in Conductor®?
You can have as many administrators in Conductor® as you like. Actually, every person you track could be flagged as an administrator
(but that might not be a good thing to do). Simultaneous access to the program will be limited, however, to the number of concurrent
administrators you purchase (i.e. a 2 user license will allow 2 administrators to use Conductor® at the same time).
What does Student LAN access mean?
The student LAN option allows your employees to use Conductor® to view their training curriculum, enroll in assigned classes, launch computer
or web based training, and preview and print their own training history reports. Like the network version of Conductor®, the student LAN option
operates over a LAN or a WAN. (A small installation program will need to be run on all workstations which require access to Conductor®.)
A network version of Conductor® is required to use the Student LAN option.
Using the Student LAN access option, how many students can access Conductor® at the same time?
Theoretically, as many people as you are tracking. Practically, it is limited by the speed of your network and how much information
is being carried across. If you have 50 students trying to take the same CBT module located on your server, things could slow down a bit!
Is Conductor® compatible with my HRIS software?
What you are probably asking is "How do I get my data from my HR/Payroll program into Conductor® without having to retype it all."
While Conductor® does not directly interface with any HRIS programs what you're asking can be easily accomplished via an export/import routine.
In other words, you would export the necessary data from your HRIS package to a delimited text file (most every program can do this). Then you
would use the Conductor® Import Maestro to import this data into Conductor®. Once this process is set up and scheduled it takes only a few minutes
to complete each time. The Import Maestro can be found by selecting File|Import on the Profile Screen.
Will Conductor® work on our Novell network?
Yes, as long as the workstations are running Windows 95 or higher.
